The very first card was launched by the FAC in 1982. The card is a dubbel sided print. The components are indicated by means of a silkscreen print. Expanding the memory was an important objective. Loading programs again and again from a tape recorder on 300 baud was tedious. Keeping your data under write-protect in Ram was a relief.
Battery Back-up Pin 24 from the memory ICs 6,7en 8 are connected to the battery back-up circuit. When the Atom is connected to the powersupply these ICs are fed from that supply. When the Atom is off and a battery is mounted ± 2,6 volt is sufficient to prevent the contents in the chips. The supply from the ICs 1 t/m 5, pin 24, (memory-space #4000-#6800) is not yet connected on the p.c.-board; use the indicated red jumpers to the print-track indicated with a plus. If you want to have more memory under battery back-up, connect these ICs not to the Plus track (on the soldering-side marked as I), but to the track which is fed by the battery when the computer is switched off (marked as II).The layout. ![]() The Components.
Write Protect The ICs 6, 7 en 8 mounted on the printed-circuit already as Write Protect mounted. Pin 21 from these ICs is connected to switch number 6 from the dipswitch device. The pins 21 from ICs 1 until 5 may be connected to the dipwitches 1 t/m 5. There are "islands" available for that purpose. If a FDC for the Atom was available for a modest price, there would probably be hardly any necessity for WP anymore.
